Bikers 4 Kids
All praise for any work or project we attempt to our Lord Jesus Christ. Without His love, protection and guidance nothing would be possible. A big thank you to Petro Voges from Solidarity that came up with the idea and got Toys for Africa involved, as well as a big thank you for all her hard work and commitment to the project thus far.
John F. Kennedy said: "All of us do not have equal talent, but all of us should have an equal opportunity to develop our talents."
The quote does make a person wonder about missed opportunities and those extra 10 minutes of sleep early in the morning. South Africa has so many people that would be more than satisfied with half of what most of us complain about daily. Opportunities are not always present for everybody, but the Bikers 4 Kids will make every child we meet realise that there are people out there that are thinking of him or her, people that care about them and people that will always help where they can.
To be a part of the Bikers 4 Kids team you must be able to answer yes to the following questions. Have you ever wanted to help, but you did not know where or how to go about it? Have you ever wanted to let someone unknown to you, know that you care even though you do not understand what they are going through? Have you ever wanted to make a difference, but you just don’t get time in your busy schedule? Have you ever wanted to make a cup of tea or a sandwich for someone less fortunate than yourself? Have you ever wanted to read to children? Have you ever wanted to learn how to paint on a disadvantaged pre-school’s wall? Have you ever wanted to fix the holes in a roof to make sure the rain stays outside where it belongs? Have you ever wanted to be outside on the grass at 10 in the morning laughing so much that your heart jumps around and your ears just need to stop your smile from going around your head? Have you ever given a child his or her very first toy in their life? Have you ever?
That is exactly what we are going to do. No chore is out of reach, no wall too high or too damaged, no roof’s holes too big, no child too young or too old, no child too light or too dark, no book is too thick, no grass are too long, no heart to far, no vegetable garden too complicated and no climbing frame too full of rust. From 18 September to 25 September, the Bikers 4 Kids, in collaboration with Toys for Africa and Helpende Hand will stop in almost 15 towns, a 1200 km trip, paint, plant grass, test jungle gyms, lay carpets, scrub walls, create vegetable gardens, put up doors, repair roofs, make sandwiches, braai boerewors, watch rugby and distribute many toys. Our goal for the week is to handout toys to 30 000 children and touch the lives of 50 000 people and really make a difference to their lives.
The projects were identified by Toys for Africa and Petro Voges in the Mpumalanga Province and the Helpende Hand branches of the Limpopo Province. From each selected area, schools and nursery schools were offered the opportunity by Bikers 4 Kids to send us a needs analysis of any improvements or problems they wanted addressed. From there the chosen school or nursery received a toy catalogue from which they, with their children could choose their own toys. The administration was quite a thriller, but fortunately enough Petro kept record of all daily developments and summarized our progress daily.
